When i sink to the floor in the summer i still
Feel you there in the water
In the carpet some stains
Like blood in the water
Like blood in the water
The headrests in my uncle’s car
Probably still have the memories of
Being a child in the summer
When his memories were warm
Inside of his head, not at rest
Not at rest
I can still feel you there in the water
Creeping around the reef there are diamonds
There in the water there is some strange body
On the seabed floor
There is my uncle’s body
Like blood in the water
Some stain expands forever
From my arm that gripped yours
On the way down to the floor; sank
Like my uncle’s body in the water
How could you find this beautiful
How could you smell the blood
Circling in the water
Sinking down to the mud
Searching for my father
Way out in the deep
Don’t look down i tell myself
Don’t look down and he grabs my chin
How could you find this beautiful i tell him
And i claw at the stains in the carpet
They spread out more like blood in the water
I scramble toward shore, i give up on my father
When i look down i see Him there in the summer
When i look down i see Him, His hand at the door
I know He’s circling the deep
For me down there at the bottom
There i am paralyzed on the bathroom floor
How can you find this beautiful i tell Him
And i sink a little more
All this blood in the water
All this blood in the water
There i am
On my knees on the carpet in the summer
On my back spread out for him in the sand
How can you find this beautiful i tell Him
He chains me down on the floor beside Him
The stains expanding when he tells me we’re home
